L’esprit du voyage

In the misty heights of Pai, gloves clash to the rhythm of traditional drums. This Thai boxing training camp takes you far from tourist circuits, to the heart of the Northern mountains where Muay Thai is still transmitted according to ancestral codes. Six days of intensive training with the best masters of the region, in a preserved setting where terraced rice fields frame the horizon.

The journey begins in Bangkok, navigating the klongs of the "Venice of the Orient" and discovering golden temples, then Chiang Mai and its old Lanna town, before reaching Pai via the thousand-curve road. This mountain village, crossed by the river of the same name, is home to renowned training camps where future champions perfect their skills. Free afternoons allow you to explore Karen villages, these Tibetan populations who migrated south and perpetuate a traditional way of life dictated by the spirits of earth and water.

Muay Thai has its roots in Muay Boran, an ancient martial art where the nak-muay combines punches, elbow strikes, knee strikes and shin kicks. More than a fighting technique, it is a philosophy transmitted from master to student in respect of ancestors. This total immersion forges a deep understanding of the Thai soul, where martial discipline and spirituality come together.

The "Venice of the Orient"

BangkokDriverGuide

Morning departure to reach the pier and take public boat-buses upstream towards the center, on the right bank and the flower market district of Pak Khlong Talat.

You are heading to meet the architectural jewels of Bangkok. Be amazed by the splendor of the Grand Palace of Bangkok, built in 1782: a sumptuous complex of buildings and inner courtyards, including Wat Phra Kaeo (Temple of the Emerald Buddha). You will discover the famous Emerald Buddha, a precious statue dating from the 14th century, at the heart of one of the most revered sanctuaries in the country.

Then, on foot, you reach Wat Pho, one of the oldest temples in Bangkok, renowned for its peaceful atmosphere and elegant pavilions. You discover the impressive Reclining Buddha, an emblematic figure of the place, as well as the inner courtyards dotted with stupas and refined decorative details.

Next, you cross the river by small boat to reach Wat Arun, the famous "Temple of Dawn", standing on the right bank. Upon arrival, you admire its spectacular central prang, finely decorated with porcelain mosaics and floral patterns that shimmer in the light.

A ride on board a traditional private "long-tail" boat-taxi on the Chao Praya river, one of the most important in the country and the true lifeblood of Bangkok. As you glide along the water, you discover the "Venice of the East", with peaceful klongs, stilt houses and small temples hidden along the banks.

First Steps in the Beauty of the North

Arrival in Chiang Mai

Upon our arrival at Chiang Mai train station, we will be welcomed by our driver and our guide.

This morning, it's by bike that we will discover the Rose of the North. From the famous Tha Phae gate in Chiang Mai, and with the mountains of Doi Suthep as a backdrop, we venture into the small traditional streets and alleyways of the city. You will discover many ancient temples, monks walking through the city, lively markets and the daily life of the inhabitants, notably that of craftspeople from mountain communities going about their activities while we pass by bike, under their curious eyes, in their neighborhood.

Small group activity accompanied by a local English-speaking guide.

Late in the afternoon, you head out for a traditional cooking class in English, organized in the countryside, outside Chiang Mai, in an old Lanna-style house. In a convivial atmosphere, you discover the basics of Thai cuisine and learn to balance the emblematic flavors: spicy, sweet, salty and tangy.

Throughout the session, you prepare several essential recipes, before tasting your creations on site.
